General Info
Judging will be on Friday, February 2nd and Saturday, February 3rd. Additional sessions may be added on Saturday January 27th if necessary. There will be 3 sessions on Friday and 3 sessions plus the BOS on Saturday. See the homepage for the schedule. All volunteers will be limited to 3 sessions per day.
2024 Judging
- We will be doing on premises eJudging. You will need a device you can use while judging which allows typing. We will not allow people to use voice recognition (it's distracting, lets your judge partner here your comments, and from my experience doesn't work well for eJudging). The pretty much eliminates ability to use a phone. The scoresheet will be several sliders, a single score (overall), and a single written section to provide feedback.
- We have cut way back on the number of stewards. Judges will need to self steward to some extent. There are no flight summary sheets, no papers, etc. Judges will need to get their own entry to judge, then clean up their area. No primadonna judges allowed - you need to clean up after yourself.
- Crackers, cups, water, etc. will be single use.
- Meals will be plated (no buffet), with a choice of a handful of options.
- There will be no post judging social events.
- We have required 3 bottles per an entry this year. One for category judging, one for mini-BOS, and one for BOS.
The following is a rough outline of the judging process:
- Judging tables will be supplied with individual packs of crackers, water, enough cups for judging that flight, and a dump bucket. Entries for a category will be centrally located for the judges of that category (will not be a cellar with all entries for the session).
- Judges find their spots, log into eJudging site.
- A judge for the flight gets an entry, pours their beer then passes bottle to other judge to pour.
- Judge beer (complete scoresheet, determine concensus, etc.)
- Repeat 3 and 4 until flight is complete.
- Determine entries to advance to mini-BOS.
- Empty your cups and bottles/cans into available buckets, throw away all cups, placemat, and any other garbage. Put empty entry bottles/cans in recycling. Remove all personal items from judging area, and go to staging area (which has room for spacing).
- Back to step 1 until all sessions are complete.
Location
The private judging will be at Revere''s Wells Street Tavern on Friday and Saturday. Tuesday and Wednesday are TBD. Revere's is an excellent facility and once again we will be taking over the entire lower level. We encourage everyone to take a look at the pictures on the location''s web site. |
Meals
Dinner on Friday will be provided for the volunteers from the Friday sessions. And lunch on Saturday will be provided for the Saturday morning volunteers. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE SCHEDULED TO WORK THE PRECEDING SHIFT AND HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THE MEAL (for the lunches). Information regarding meal sign up will be forthcoming.
